Our research design involves both expert and resident interviews. Expert interviews with key stakeholders offer insights into the motivation behind and aspirations for developments. These one-off interviews take place with initial stakeholders prior to any engagement with residents, but continue over time as other relevant stakeholders are identified.
The second strand of research involves interviews and activities with prospective and actual residents, designed to explore experiences of living in an active home over time. Residents will be interviewed on three occasions; prior to moving to their active home, shortly after occupation and then around one year post-occupation.
Our research design involves qualitative semi-structured interviews, meaning that the researcher has a list of topics to cover but there is room for the participant to raise issues that they feel are important. By taking a longitudinal approach and speaking to residents over time, we are able to develop more detailed and dynamic understandings of the transition to life in a low carbon home.
